Managing pages
AdminCentral, as the name suggests, is the central administration page for Magnolia. From here you can manage the pages of your website and upload files that you wish to reference online.
The navigation menu on the left provides links to several workspaces; Website, Documents, and Inbox, that allow you to accomplish these tasks. The Website workspace is selected by default when you login.
Website Workspace
Selecting the Website workspace causes the web pages to be displayed in a tree view on the right-hand side. From here you can expand nodes to see subpages, double-click a node to open the page, rename nodes to change the web page's URL and change the title displayed in the browser window. You can also select a page template to use and activate or deactivate pages to make them viewable or not over the internet.
The toolbar at the bottom contains buttons to open, activate, or deactivate the currently selected page as well as create a new page underneath it. Additional actions such as move, copy, delete, and show versions can be seen by right-clicking on a page name to display a context menu.
You can refresh the tree view at any time by clicking on the Refresh button and you can use the search bar to look for pages containing certain words or phrases.
The Site Tree
As web pages are organized into a tree structure child pages are able to inherit templates, properties, and paragraphs from their parents. This allows new pages to be created quickly with standard elements already in place and configured from one location. It also allows paragraphs to dynamically generate navigation menus as the structure of the site is implicit in the way the pages are organized. Changes to the position of pages within the tree are picked up automatically so there is no need to manually alter navigation links.
The 5 columns shown in the website workspace have the following purposes:
- Page - the name of the web page (used to create the page's URL)
- Title - the title shown in the browser window when the page is displayed
- Status - indicates whether a page is activated (green), deactivated (red), or differs from the current active page (amber). Also indicates if the page is editable or not using a crossed-out pen icon.
- Template - the name of the template used by the page
- Mod. date - the date and time when the page was last modified
